Jayni's Kitchen- Lawrence, KS

OK- I was nervous. We drove to Jayni’s house early in the morning to tape the cooking show. I didn’t get enough sleep- we had been at Local Burger, also in Lawrence, the night before for the “GO ORGANIC” movie (including the Meatrix) at Liberty Hall. But, Jayni had been nice enough to have us on her show while we were passing through Kansas, so I had to do it, nervous or not! This was a wonderful opportunity to talk about the road trip, local and sustainable foods, and to spend some time with Jayni Carey and her Kansas audience.
We started the show with both Diane and me talking to Jayni. Diane talked about the road trip (why, where, when) and then she stepped aside so that Jayni and I could get down to cooking! As soon as the camera came on, so did my nervousness… but Jayni and her crew (Kevin Dobson, Jeffery Bray and J.P. Wofford of Free State Studios) made me feel right at home. We made my Easy Summer Gazpacho, Corn and Pepper Fritatta and Salsa Verde. Jayni took the time to shop for the show the day before, getting local and organic produce and eggs. The beautiful tomatoes we used were from her backyard garden. We cooked and talked… and actually had a good time! And when we were done, we all sat down and ate the food we had made- it was fabulous (if I can say so myself!). I think it would be pretty difficult to mess up these easy recipes, especially with the beautiful local produce we were using.
The show will air beginning Sept. 4th (12 times in the Lawrence, KS area, and state-wide on Cox Cable during the week).
