Lunch at the Plains- Cheyenne, WY
by Dawn
A lunch like this one can be tough! We were seated at a huge table, 20 or so guests... and no way to really get around and meet everyone.
The historic Plains Hotel was beautiful. We arrived with our crew- the group we had gathered earlier in the day from ACRES and the new Laramie Food Coop. There at the hotel restaurant, we were met by quite a few new people.
I sat a the end of the table... next to Lauren (from Food and Water Watch), Janell (from the new Laramie Food Coop) and a new person! I had a wonderful timing getting to know Catherine Wissner- a woman of many talents. First of all, she wasn't able to attend our evening event because she had to go back to her ranch to bale hay (certified organic hay, by the way!). Wild Winds Sheep Company (Carpenter, WY- 307-649-2430) is the ranch that she runs with her partner Martin. They raise all of their animals in a humane and stress-free environment. She also told me that she spins yarn, and is part of the Laramie County Cooperative Extension as a teacher in their Master Gardener program.
Some of the others that I was unable to talk to were:
Ted Craig, the Wyoming Business Council's Value-added Program Manager who, in his official capacity, supports Farmer's Markets around the State; Cindy Garretson-Weibel, the Wyoming Business Council's Agribusiness Division Director; Shane Smith, the Director of the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens and I'm sure there were others at the table...
Thank you to all in Cheyenne for such a wonderful turn out!
