We got into Eugene Wednesday afternoon after driving up from the Rogue Creamery and needed to fill up on biodiesel. Our tour manager, Stephanie Bleyer, has hooked us up with all we need to know to find enough of this more eco-friendly fuel every time we need to fill up. Well, in Eugene, it was at SeQuential Biofuels. I never would’ve imagined that I would get excited about going to a gas station, but this place was awesome.

Aside from the Biodiesel, it serves up another grade that regular cars can run on, and besides that, it boasts solar panels on the covering over the fill-up area, a living, green roof (that aside from being ecologically responsible, was quite beautiful) and a slightly pitched concrete slab surrounded by Bioswale, which helps to absorb any runoff (unlike regular gas stations, where any gas spilled would run off the asphault and into storm drains and our water systems. Inside, they offer a number of organic treats, and even some fresh fruit, so that travelers can grab food that is good for them.

SeQuential attendant (and unofficial spokesperson) Alan was a good enough sport to make a funny little tape with Oregon host, Kendra, so be on the lookout for that soon. In fact, we’ve got several videos ready to upload as soon as we get to a place with a fast enough connection—it’s tough uploading big files via satellite!

Anyway, Alan tells us that Eugene’s is the first SeQuential station in the state, but that more are slated to pop up, and I hope they do. The whole group agreed that this was the coolest gas station we’ve ever seen!

Lynn from KLCC.org was kind enough to meet us at the station and pick Diane up to do an interview about the trip so far and that evening’s pie-eating contest at the Dittybops concert (stay tuned for the story and the video—the Dittybops were awesome and the contest…well, you’ll have to see for yourself). Check out the interview and our thanks go out to Lynn and the Alan and the rest of the SeQuential folks!
