Green City Market- Chicago, IL
by Dawn
Wednesday, August 29. We showed up this morning at about 7:15am and the market was already up and running! It was a beautiful day... the possibility of rain was around, but the market was untouched. There were many curious faces, willing to talk to us about the Eat Well Guided Tour of America, Food and Water Watch and about sustainability in Chicago.
It was an exciting market with so much more than vegetables. There was organic meat and dairy- a few choices too. People were preparing food- veggie wraps, quiches, smoothies, pastries, and more. I ate at least 3 times from 7 until 1pm!
The Green City Market organizers, Laura and Roman, were very helpful, and so were the vendors.
I met two women working at the Tomato Mountain Farm table, who were very interested in what we do, and who sold me some amazing little orange tomatoes. I found out that they sell their Blood Mary mix to Crust- the restaurant where our evening event is. I also ran into Vinnie from Bleeding Heart Bakery at the farmers market, they also work closely with Crust! And Steve (our film maker) took some time to speak with the crew from Growing Power, where they do hands-on training for rural and urban farmers.
Many people stopped by to see what we are doing, and I think that we might see a few of them tonight at Crust!
