Wednesday, June 11: So, we're here. At Bonnaroo. The event of the season. We've come in a day early to register, set up our booth, and get ourselves organized. First impression - humid, humid, humid! We got to our booth and just started sweating - rivers of sweat rolling off our bodies. Oh, you've just got to love the South!

But there's something really special about getting into a festival this huge (80,000 people)before the crowds arrive. The main stage is up but there's no one on the field, no vendors, no music, no trash. The grass is alive, green and growing - that'll all change over the next couple days. But it's quiet - perhaps the quiet before the musical storm.

The main headliners this year are Pearl Jam and Metallica. We were quite pleased to read on the Bonnaroo site that Pearl Jam is very conscious of their carbon footprint and does a lot of things to minimize their impact on the environment. (Now I think we need to educated them on food issues and how that impacts climate change....)

Jack Johnson in another performer who'll be playing here who's extremely sustainable. I know this totally dates me, but I don't know his stuff - have heard a lot about him but just never went online to check him out. (So I'm obviously hoping to steal away from our tent to see him perform on Saturday....)

I'm hoping to find out if there are other artists here who are eco-conscious - it seems like musicians are leading the pack in the entertainment world when it comes to being socially responsible and sustainable. So the next couple of days will be very interesting.

I'll post up pictures tomorrow of our booth (shock, horror! - I forgot to bring my camera today....) - but we'll show you where we're at, what Planet Roo is all about, and we'll meet the other nonprofits sharing space around us and will give you updates and information on what they're doing. And, naturally, we'll tell you about the food - we hear those going to be some organic and really tasty, non-festival-like food served over the next couple of days. So we'll be back tomorrow with more. Right now I have to go finish unpacking and get some rest!
