New Weekly Blog Columns on The Daily Table
We continue to make improvements to our blog, The Daily Table, including new links to other great blogs and two new weekly columns! Diane Hatz (Executive Director of Sustainable Table and Executive Producer of The Meatrix) is now writing a column called "At the Table" every Friday. Diane will be breaking down the issues and discussing the "whys" and "hows" of sustainable eating. Recent posts have included an overview on what "buying local" really means (and why we should care) and practical tips on how to find sustainable farmers near you. Look for upcoming columns on the road trip to Farm Aid and how sustainable food helps build and sustain communities!
On Wednesdays, look for the "Weekly Pick" where we introduce new features like books, TV shows, websites and the like. We always want to hear from you - so email info@sustainabletable.org if you have suggestions for the Weekly Pick!
Meatrix on DVD
Fast Food Nation DVDs are now on sale and for rent at your local DVD/video store! We're ecstatic to announce that all three of The Meatrix movies are housed in the "special features" section. Check out the movie The New York Times called the "most essential political film by an American director since Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11". As always, all three of the award-winning Meatrix animations can also be viewed online at www.themeatrix.com. (but they look great on the DVD…)

Happy Earth Day!
Earth Day (April 22) is fast approaching…Here are three things you can do to celebrate:
- Get educated. Sustainable food is not just about what's healthy for you and fair for farmers—factory farms also contribute to global warming. Visit our Sustainable Table Issues pages or our blog for information about sustainable eating.
- Spread the word. Invite your friends to check out The Meatrix and the Eat Well Guide. Chat with others on our forum!
- Eat Well. Find a sustainable food vendor near you with our Eat Well Guide. Go support your local sustainable restaurants -- or better yet, gather the goods at a farm or food co-op near you and host a sustainable potluck!
King Corn
King Corn premiered to rave reviews at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin. This small independent film is centered on two friends who decide to move to Iowa and grow an acre of corn - after finding out (through a laboratory hair analysis) that most of their bodies were made out of…you guessed it: corn. This movie is more than a buddy flick, however - it traces the modern history of corn agriculture in the United States and the real reason why many Americans are composed of corn (hint: think corn-fed beef and high fructose corn syrup). Read more about it on our review page and check out the filmmakers' website at www.kingcorn.net where you can even order copies of the DVD.
Baum Forum
Those of you who live or will be in the NYC area April 21 should check out the next Baum Forum, "Schools, Food and Gardening: Cultivating a Healthy Future". Co-sponsored by the Baum Forum and The Nutrition Program, Teachers College Columbia University, the event will be held at Teachers College Columbia University (525 West 120th St) from 8:30am-6pm. The forum will feature workshops, panels, and other resources that focus on gardening, education, and eating well.

Tell FDA: No Food From Cloned Animals!
Polls reveal that as many as 64% of Americans do not want to eat meat or dairy from cloned animals, but the FDA stands to approve food products from clones, without requiring that clone food be labeled as such. The comment period is almost over--sign on to Food & Water Watch's no clones campaign!
Hold the Hormones Update
December's "Hold the Hormones" Call-in Day was a huge success. Starbucks announced a 10% increase in their supplies of rBGH-free dairy, meaning that stores in Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Idaho will now serve rBGH-free dairy. Let's get the Starbucks in the other 46 states to also go rBGH-free by signing on to our updated letter.
Internship Opportunities
Eat Well Guide Internship/Externship - Telecommute from Any College Campus in the
United States or Canada

Sustainable Table is seeking college interns/externs throughout the United States and Canada who are interested in food issues and would like to increase their research and marketing skills by helping expand the Eat Well Guide, an online directory of sustainable food sources. While most experiences of the intern/externship will revolve around updating and promoting the Guide, this is a remarkable opportunity for interns with a passion for food and health to learn about new technology and participate in a creative marketing project. Sustainable Table's Cross Country Road Trip to Farm Aid
And, don't forget that Sustainable Table is going on the road this summer to help support local farms and sustainable food outlets! We'll be blogging, making videos, and visiting small farms, local farmers markets and restaurants that serve sustainable food! We still haven't made an "official" announcement yet, so we can't give you many details, but we do know that we'll be traveling from the west coast to the east coast sometime in August, to arrive at the Farm Aid concert (date and venue to be announced). Can't wait? Check in at the road trip web page for updates.
