Moonstone Organic Farm Bed & Bagel – Montevideo, Minnesota
In the Minnesota River Valley, fall foliage is best after the first frost, which usually comes at the end of September or in early October. Gold is the most brilliant and prevalent color, accompanied by Amber Maple trees and Wild Plums, which have beautiful red, purple, and yellow leaves.

There is much natural beauty to experience, and people often make their reservations early with plans to immerse themselves in activities “off the beaten track.” One good way to see the fall colors is to travel along the Prairie Waters scenic by-way, a 300-mile route replete with picturesque vistas along the Minnesota River from Belle Plaine to Browns Valley. The by-way provides a good number of ideal drop-off points for canoe, kayak, or camping buffs.

The Meander Art Crawl, scheduled for September 30th through October 2nd, brings visitors to the area's many shops, restaurants, and natural amenities and cultivates an appreciation for the lifestyle that inspires local artists. Tours of area studios include pottery, photographs, cards, and local artisan foods.

Moonstone Organic Farm Bed & Bagel is already receiving bookings for this time of year, so call at least a month in advance to reserve a spot. Situated on the farm's 240 acres of gently rolling bluff land with a diverse landscape and plenty of trees, the Bed & Bagel welcomes guests to stroll along the walking trails that run throughout the farm, visit the beach, or canoe on the farm's pond. Nearby Lac qui Parle State Park offers trails for hiking or horseback riding, as well as fishing or canoeing. Moreover, the park is home to a wide variety of waterfowl, shorebirds, and aquatic furbearers. Guests stay in a one-room cottage furnished with traditional and hand-made furniture and are awakened to the sound of songbirds and a continental breakfast that is delivered to the door.
