Farm Bill Update- Spring 2008
The April 18th deadline for a new Farm Bill came and went, inspiring only a new extension giving lawmakers until April 25th to settle their differences (now pushed until May 2nd, when will this end?). Followers of the bill are skeptical that this new deadline will mark the end of a very long debate. In the meantime, there is plenty of time to study up on the issues and weigh in on what matters most to you.
Top Ten Barriers to Local Food Access for Low-Income Individuals
The “Top 10 Barriers” list was compiled by Local Foods Connection (with help from social service agency personnel who serve similar populations) to start a conversation about what prevents low-income families from buying local food. Local Foods Connection is a non-profit organization that purchases produce, meat and other products from small family farmers and donates this food to low-income families.

Cows Unite
Sustainable Table supports the bossy bovine sisters of Cows Unite in their mission to get dairy-loving humans to choose the best organic milk. According to their Bovine Bill of Rights, this means choosing milk that comes from cows that are given the rights to pasture, sunshine, exercise, clean air, and freedom from antibiotics and toxic chemicals. Rise up! Learn more and join their movement at www.cowsunite.org.
