The Weekly Pick--Kiwi Magazine

KIWI May June Cover_72dpi copy_edited-1.jpgThis week's pick will be particularly interesting for those of you who have children. It's Kiwi Magazine, which is just turning one year old. Kiwi is a bimonthly publication all about raising families the natural and organic way. Whether your child is a newborn baby or a teenager, Kiwi will help you make healthier decisions for you and your kids.

These days, it seems like parents are inundated with information and "do this--don't do that" messaging. Kiwi's content is neither judgmental nor preachy. Instead, the magazine presents practical information and realistic suggestions. So if you want to find out what cool eco-friendly clothing is available for your kids, or which are the best tasting organic snacks, check it out! Kiwi is available by subscription or on newsstands at Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Barnes & Noble, Borders, Target, and more. We got a sneak peek at the May/June issue, which hits newsstands May 15th....

This issue features tips on shopping for healthy and organic groceries on a budget (sound familiar?), planning an eco-friendly birthday party, and de-coding the often nutrition information on food labels. Every issue of Kiwi includes recipes, eco-crafts, nutrition tips, eco news, and healthy products for kids.

Sidenote for those of you who love contests: Kiwi has just announced their first annual "Kiwi Crusaders" award, which recognizes excellence in school food service. They are asking that schools or school systems that are committed to sourcing local ingredients, serving organic foods and have high nutritional standards to apply on their website to win $3,500! Go to www.kiwimagonline.com/kiwicrusaders/ for information on how to apply.

Victor,

I'm not a parent, but I agree--kids are particularly sponge-like in their ability to pick up new skills, and patterns learned early in life stick with us! That's why we're so excited to see a great parenting magazine...did I mention that it's colorful and nice? Because it is.

I have always been told, and I believe it is scientifically proven, that children have an easier time learning foreign languages. I think the same theory applies to the art of roller skating. Just try strapping on roller blades for the first time at age 30!

This is the same idea with getting our kids to eat well! If they learn from an early age good practices, they are sure to grow into responsible citizens.

Great magazine!
