Award-Winning Meatrix II Cast Mooves over for Oscars
This is our press release that went out over the weekend announcing our launch date....
NEW YORK — Meatrix star Moopheus, the trench coat-clad cow, will sidestep the spotlight while American pop culture aficionados remain fixated on the 2006 Academy Awards. So as not to detract from this year’s focus on the meaty socially explorative films that nabbed Oscar’s nod, Moopheus and his award-winning cast mates intend to launch the premier of their upcoming online film, The Meatrix II: Revolting, a full two weeks after the awards hype.
The long-awaited sequel to the Internet’s most popular advocacy film, The Meatrix, will launch online at www.themeatrix2.com on March 30. The launch will be preceded by the world premiere screening at New York City’s Bowery Poetry Club on March 29 at 6 p.m. EST.
“Some years, the Academy Awards are just another cattle call for Hollywood waifs and playboys and films that are light on meaning,” said Moopheus. “But, this year, there’s some meat to the contenders, and I don’t want to be guilty of trying to milk away any of the attention — I’ll save that for next year.”
The Meatrix II Flash animation takes the original Meatrix spoof on the Matrix films and introduces a new twist – a dairy farming shakedown. Farm heroes, Moopheus (http://www.myspace.com/moopheus), Leo, the young-pig, and the sultry poultry fighter, Chickity, take on the ugly truth about how factory dairy farm animals are raised, what they eat and their horrendous living conditions. To get the behind-the-scenes scoop and back story on the making of The Meatrix II, visit www.themeatrix.com/blog.
Visitors to the site can sign up to be the first to see Meatrix II: Revolting and have the film delivered directly to their inboxes upon release. When the film launches, themeatrix2.com will feature a host of resources to teach visitors about the dark side of the factory dairy farm industry and offer tools to help consumers get involved in the sustainable dairy movement. Included in these tools will be a brand new online educational realm, the 360 Interactive.
The Meatrix II: Revolting was produced by Sustainable Table (www.sustainabletable.org) and Free Range Studios. Sustainable Table is a consumer campaign launched to help fill the gaps in the sustainable food movement, and to help direct consumers to the leading organizations working on the issue. Free Range offers top-quality design and Flash animation services to companies and organizations whose vision goes beyond turning the world into a strip mall.
The Meatrix was a 2005 Webby Award winner, and has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success on the independent film festival circuit. In November 2004, the film won Best Documentary Short at the Fourteenth Annual Environment Media Association Awards (EMAs) in Los Angeles. It also has received awards from the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, the Glynwood Foundation, and Media Rights’ Media That Matters Film Festival.
The Bowery Poetry Club is located at 308 Bowery at Bleeker Street.
