Talking Otters and Supernatural Powers!

gaiagirls.jpg
Gaia Girls are modern day superheroines here to save the earth - literally.

In "Gaia Girls: Enter the Earth", the first of a new book series by personal trainer-turned-author Lee Welles, an otherwise normal 10 year old farm girl begins to hear Gaia speaking to her through an otter. She discovers supernatural powers, moving rocks and dirt with her mind and the ability to travel through the tree tops.

Her mission, should she choose to accept it? Saving her family's farm when a factory farm comes to town.

What could be better than a children's adventure book with a ten year old heroine saving family farms? One that's printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper! Along with this new book, Welles has also started her own independent publishing company in order to ensure that her books are printed with eco-friendly principles in mind.

As a former English teacher and current staff developer, I am always excited when a new writer ventures into the difficult world of juvenille literature. Was I in for a treat. This was not just another new wannabe publishing her first novel. This is the real deal. What a joy to read!

I am the proud mother of a three year old Gaia Girl. She rescues worms from the sidewalk as soon as the rain ends, puts fallen flower petals back in the pots with their "mommies", and knows when the tree in our backyard is happy or sad by the conversations she and the tree have. More than once she's sobbed as I mowed over dandelions in our yard. Her heartfelt love of all things living is sincere. As I read the book, I experienced an odd mixture of emotions. I could imagine Elizabeth as she was a toddler and my daughter as a teenager. I'm watching a deep love much like Elizabeth's grow in my daughter and Lee Wells captured it perfectly. Her clever style of mixing fabulous fiction with an important message about protecting our Earth both entertains us and makes us think. I've already passed my copy on to a teenage friend who enjoyed it so much she can't part with it to return it. Guess I know who I'll be buying Book Two for!

In my opinion Gaia Girls is the greatest book I ever read. Every time I picked up Gaia Girls I was glued. If I had a choice I would reread Gaia Girls. Most of the other books I have read I could not follow.
I can not wait to read the rest of the series. Gaia Girls opened a whole new door to reading. This book left me waiting to read the next one. The other books I have read left me hanging. Gaia Girls leaves you anxious to read the next book!

I loved this book! This is exactly the kind of book we enjoyed reading out loud when our children were young. It's a wonderful story with a powerful message. Lee's poetic descriptions made this a visual experience as well as a great read. I look forward to reading more about Elizabeth's challenges.

I thought I was previewing this book for my kids...Ha!! I could not put it down; it has the same magic as other great "kids' " books. I love it that the hero is female. I love the values espoused in the book...organic meat and veggies/ family farm/ no takeover by eminent domain etc. The family portrayed in the book seem very real...they aren't saints!! The writing is so compelling and the illustrations...words fail, they are so beautiful. And I am therefore glad there are a LOT of illustrations.

I"m going to recommend this book to anyone who will hold still long enough!

Embrace your inner otter!!!!

I enjoyed this first book tremendously. This is a wonderful story that will touch the imaginations of children of all ages. It reminds me of the series of books I read as a young girl. They were the Mother West Wind stories by Thornton Wilder.
I wish you much luck on all of your future stories.

Great book. I read it in two evenings and only put it down the first night because I needed some sleep for work in the morning. I am looking forward to the next one and hopefully a full series. I will definately pass it on to friends and family. Could we possibly have the next JK Rowlings in our midst?? Keep up the great work. Johanna

Enter the Earth by Lee Welles is a magnificent read that just touches on holistic ideals about our Earth. It is geared toward younger readers but has the ability to make adults think about their approach toward the global cause, and it certainly made me wish to be more altruistically in tune with nature. In so many ways it grabs the reader whether it be the fantastical notion of Gaia or the action packed moments throughout. I believe this book has just what new juvenile fiction has been lacking- a true foundation. I would recommend the book to anyone who would love a touch of fiction mixed with a world of the greater cause.

One only has to read the opening setence of Gaia Girls to know this book is going to be filled with adventure. This book captured my senses and transported me to the little farm in Avon.
As I was reading so many memories of my own childhood and my relationship with nature came flowing back.

We are expecting our first child in April and this book reminded me of how important it is to teach our children of the world that surrounds us. I was moved by the vivid descriptions and found myself walking outside to reconnect with the earth. It is amazing all of things you can see when you take the time to open your eyes. Gaia Grils creates a magical way to introduce both kids and adults to environmental issues and reminded me to take th time to stop and "smell the roses".

I am looking forward to next adventure!

It was my initial intention to spend no longer than an hour a day reading "Gaia Girls" until I finished it. Once I started to read it I couldn't put the book down. So much for my plans. The book was wonderful! I loved reading about Elizabeth and her adventures about saving the earth. I felt like I was right there at Three Oaks Farm with her.

I also enjoyed looking at the delightful animal and plant life illustrations and finding the hidden clues that are used to solve the puzzle included in the book.

"Gaia Girls" was not only entertaining and suspenseful, but informative as well. It is beautifully written with detailed descriptions. A book that everyone 9 and older should read! I can see Gaia Girls becoming a favorite series and an award winning book.

I am looking forward to reading the remaining books in the series.

I loved the book! I just wish I could have read it to my children when they were little. It's great that the girl gets to be the hero, but it's also a book that boys can enjoy. I have always loved trees, but Enter The Earth really brings home how important it is that we take good care of them, as well as the entire ecosystem.

The book is awesome! Not only is it an interesting story but my view of the earth around me has changed. I cannot wait for the next book. Anyone would enjoy this book.

I am not what you would call an avid reader, so it really takes something special to hold my attention in regards to reading. I was not able to put this book down until I was finished. I had just finished reading the LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring when I received my copy of Gaia Girls: Enter the Earth and I was astonished to find that I was enjoying Gaia Girls as much as LOTR in many respects and more so in others! Lee?s descriptive writing style brought many vivid memories to mind regarding the beauty in nature that I have experienced myself. It also reminded me of many of the memorable things that we have all experienced in our school years.

As many others have said, this book is not just for young girls. I am a 36 year old man that just could not get enough of this story and am patiently (more like anxiously) waiting for the next book!

This book is wonderful! It was interesting the whole way through. I love the mix of reality and fantasy. I never realized half of things that this book showed. I couldn't stop reading it! I can't wait until the next book comes out. If the author keeps the books as interesting as this, I'll have a new favorite series.

This book is AMAZING! I had the good furtune of meeting Lee Welles at the Southeast Steuben County Library's "Celebration of Books". Lee gave me a copy of the book at the event & I read it as soon as I got home! I was instantly pulled into Elizabeth's amazing adventures.
I loved this book so much that I want to encourage all girls in our communities to have an opportunity to peek into Elizabeth's world! The Girl Scout Book Club will Kick Off on December 5th at the Big Flats Community Center. (www.girlscoutssevenlakes.org or www.gaiagirls.com for more info)
I can't wait for the next book!!

Hello,

I got an email about this blog and I had to post.

My wife was busy, and at first I really did not want to attend the Gaia Girls event.

However.. Wow! I was lucky enough to attend the Gaia Girls opening event with my daughter this weekend.

Again, it was a fantastic event. Lee Welles was great! Lee was friendly, outgoing, and very engaging to all the kids and adults that attended. My daughter was so excited to go home and read the book immediately. I admit I borrowed my daughter?s copy after she fell asleep. I had a chance to read the book last night and WOW. I couldn't put it down and I couldn?t believe how great this book was.

I learned Gaia Girls is not just for kids or just girls. I was sucked right into Elizabeth?s world and her adventure. I?m excited to read more of the books and I look forward to the discussions my daughter and I will have as she reads this fantastic book.

Please run to check out www.gaigirls.com and get a copy for yourself.

Father of a Gaia Girl,
Stan
