New Study Finds Antibiotics Pollute Crops
We know that we're likely to find antibiotics in conventional meat, but now they're in corn, too?
The Journal Of Environmental Quality reported last month that corn, green onions and cabbage are found to absorb antibiotics that are regularly fed to pigs and other farm animals through the soil. Thanks to fertilizer from pigs who excrete these drugs (which their bodies are not able to fully absorb), antibiotics are spreading to unintended areas of the food chain.
These drugs were previously found to stunt plant growth, and this further dissemination of antibiotics means that we're creating more antibiotic resistant germs and bacteria. Read the article from The NewStandard.
