I was trying to do my part in buying local and I went to the local farmers market, bought some peaches, and when I got home, I found stickers from Mexico on them. So, I'm not really sure what was grown locally at that place and what came from far away. Just check it out and ask questions-- that's my best advice.

Following the trend toward local foods, fishermen have adopted the CSA model to sell shares of their catch. The Community Supported Fisheries aren't yet as common as the CSAs. But if you're lucky enough to live near one, you should look into it.

I have been making an effort to buy as much local food as possible - it's great. I'm starting a website to organize resources for healthy, natural living and will add a link to Sustainable Table.

I'm the leader of Slow Food Western Slope chapter in Colorado, and we have a "bunch" of organic/naturally grown farmers in the North Fork Valley (see http://www.vogaco.org/ and look at the directory). One of our farmers, Lynn Gillespie of The Living Farm, has produced a very positive documentary regarding eating/buying locally. It's called "Locavore: Local Diet, Healthy Planet"; it's very much in line with Diane Hatz's article, "Eat Local (and sustainable!)". Go to http://www.locavoremovie.com/ and look at the trailer (better yet, download the movie). Please consider using that link as part of your "Our Favorites". Thank you.
