What a comprehensive and thoughtful post.

It's interesting that so many people are too shy to ask or as noted above don't know what to ask.

The farmers I talk to are proud of what they do and in most cases (but not all) would like people to appreciate the care that goes into putting food on the table.

As an eater you may enjoy the depth of flavor that sustainability often provides. As a parent or provider you feel better knowing that you have sourced out the healthiest food you can afford.

This is a post to be shared again and again.

what a great post! Found you on FightBack Fridays :)

I think that asking questions of the farmer is a delicate issue, and can be a tricky one to balance. Although important and most likely appreciated by the farmer, it's not quite like asking questions when buying a car. The salesperson at the dealership didn't build the car themselves... my impression from farmers is that they are very proud of the food that they grow. As they should be. As consumers, even if unconciously, we are aware of this underlying issue.

I like your examples of questions to ask and more information on pesticides :)
