We recently began purchasing most of our food through a local organic delivery service, at least until our CSA starts in June. We noticed the apples are much smaller than what you get at the store. The funny thing is that my husband was absolutely raving about the flavor compared to store bought apples. He even said he'd take a small, organic, flavor filled apple any day over the large, pretty, flavorless and mealy store apples. I agree!!! I'm sure there is a huge difference in the nutritional content as well.

Thanks for including this list in today's Fight Back Fridays blog carnival. It's a great contribution, and I look forward to reading your tips for how people can make steps towards eating this way.

Cheers,

Great list! How about adding a 9th item? My suggestion would be "Consider the alternative."

Doing so supports an unsustainable food system that exports dollars out of regions. It means consuming edible foodlike substances manufactured to be "more nutritious" than natural foods, something we know doesn't work since a nutrient-level focus takes consumers' eyes of food, diet and lifestyle.

Here's to accelerating the development of sustainable, regional food systems!
