Hi MB -

I'm not sure if I can go into that kind of detail here on the blog. As you said, whole books have been written about just some of these topics, so I can't go into that kind of depth. What I try to do is put links to our Issues pages on Sustainable Table so people like you who want to read more can read more - everything there is footnoted so you can also see the sources. For example, if you go to our Water Pollution page at http://www.sustainabletable.org/issues/waterpollution/ and scroll down to "For More Information," you can see some reports that you can read that will give you more detail. (Cesspools of Shame is well written and an easy read.)

The Food and Agriculture organization from the United Nations has some information on animal stress and how it affects meat - http://www.fao.org/docrep/003/X6909E/x6909e04.htm.

What I'll also try to do in the future is link to other organizations or information that I think might help you. I'm trying to not overwhelm people with information, so I'll keep working on finding the right balance.

Thanks for your comments!

I look forward to seeing more detail here. You make a lot of claims in this blog that need to be better defined and explored in order for newcomers to take them seriously. I mean, whole books have been written on each topic! I'd love to see this blog become a place where, not only can I get informed about these subjects, but I can also be armed with detail and fact. As I tell my friends about factory farming and sustainable agriculture, they wonder why they should spend more or go out of their way to purchase such products. How do you know the water is polluted more by factory than by small farms? Can you provide accounts of animal stress? All of these questions, when answered in detail, really help me change minds.

Thanks for doing what you do!
