healthy-mondayToday’s tip comes from The Green Fork, Eat Well Guide’s blog.

Today’s Healthy Monday tip: Herbs are your friend.

Adding herbs to your diet can awaken the senses, offer variety in your food, and even do the body good. It is a really simple addition (and won’t break the bank either) to your cooking that can also boost the nutritional value of your meals. A personal favorite of mine is rosemary.

There is nothing quite like the aroma of fresh rosemary sprigs. No wonder it has historically been used as an agent to stimulate memory and concentration. Rosemary adds wonderful flavor to dishes and brings life to veggies and meats. I enjoy plucking the leaves and adding them when roasting root veggies (parsnips, carrots, sweet potatoes). I also throw in whole sprigs to season meats and stews- it’s especially tasty with lamb.

In addition to its unique flavor, rosemary has many health benefits. It is a good source of iron and calcium, will provide you with a boost to the immune, circulatory and digestive systems, and is an anti-inflammatory too. I recommend buying fresh organic rosemary, and believe me, your tastebuds will thank you. You can store rosemary in the fridge; seal it tightly, and it will last you for months!
