  • While we are moving, something to read…

February 4th, 2009 Posted by Dawn 3 Comments

Our office moved over the last few days, just next door, but it’s amazing all the packing and shifting and whatnot that needs to be done.  So while I’m preoccupied, I thought I’d share a couple of interesting things:

On the road with a slaughterhouse trailer, Ag Journal, 01/30/09

A retired English literature professor turned ranch manager is operating one apparatus that could help turn things around – the mobile slaughter unit. The 33-foot semi-truck is essentially a slaughter plant on wheels. Among its advantages are relatively low overhead costs and the flexibility to go to remote ranches.

How to avoid GMOs, Green Muze, 02/03/09

GMOs, or genetically modified organisms, are becoming a lot more prevalent in North American food and due to the lack of GMO labeling, consumers have difficulty avoiding foods that contain genetically modified ingredients. Unfortunately, an estimated 70% of the food in North American stores contain bio-engineered elements and that number is only expected to increase as more Frankenfoods are introduced into the North American food system each year.

Make every Monday Wear Red Day, Healthy Monday

From our friends and colleagues over at Healthy Monday -This Friday millions of women will wear red to highlight the risks of heart disease. Heart disease is the number one killer of women. But too few women are aware of the risks they face.

To help spread the word, Healthy Monday encourages women to wear red every Monday. Make the commitment each week to tell your family, friends and neighbors the truth about heart disease. And use each Monday to stay on track with your heart healthy goals.

Why Monday? It’s a fresh start. A day to refocus and recommit, and to celebrate your journey towards heart health.

    1. Wow, dude. I added this blog to my bookmarks as soon as I found it, but I think now it’s going bye-bye. I clicked the first link and realized you support slaughter. I thought it was going to be a criticism of slaughter. Animals are, simply put, more than commodities. I don’t care if the animal is a human or a dolphin or a lobster. We are talking about creatures capable of suffering and happiness. Where possible, I choose happiness for all of us.

    2. Hi Louche – we agree, animals are more than commodities!! We educate the public about the problems with factory farming and industrial agriculture and support humane animal treatment, and humane slaughter. I know that “slaughter” doesn’t sound humane at all, but if people continue to eat meat (which I think they will) they can make decisions to purchase meat from small farms where the animals have the right to live out their lives as they should, and are slaughtered in the most humane way possible.

Thanks for your comment, we appreciate your thoughts! -Dawn

    3. Just wanted to pass along another link to read about a film that says its Christians’ responsibility to sustain nature:::
