Hyperlocavore – A Yardsharing Community was brought to my attention today… what a wonderful idea!

    What is a ‘hyperlocavore’?

A hyperlocavore is a person who tries to eat as much food as locally as possible. Growing your own is as local as it gets!

    What is ‘yardsharing’?

Yardsharing is an arrangement between people to share skills and gardening resources in order to grow food as locally as possible! The group can be friends, family or neighbors (or any combination!)

I’m sure you don’t even have to be a locavore, let alone a “hyperlocavore,” to be interested in “yardsharing” (who doesn’t want to get their hands dirty and grow fresh food?).  Check out this new social networking site which is built to support growing in yardsharing arrangements with neighbors, friends and family. Bring your skills, strength, time and resources together to make the food-to-plate distance even shorter!

LizM, the site moderator says, “We are here to help people form and maintain yardsharing systems, suburban farming and to help bring back neighborhood street life.” Thanks!

    1. I love the term “locavore”! I’ve never heard it before, that’s too funny. Glad they didnt name it orgavore (for organic food eaters).

There is a funny food video at this new site I found, LayZgreenPeople but with the y and z inverted. http://www.layzgreenpeople.com/pledges/June_Green_your_Food-17.aspx

anyway, great site, love your writing style here!

    2. I’ve been trying to figure out how to use my large yard in a more socially responsible way. It was great to have a large backyard and woods along with a resonably large vegtable garden when my children were small. It all made sense to have a safe place for them to play so close to our house. Now that my children are grown, the yard seems empty. I enjoy working in the gardens more than ever, but somehow I feel alone. I think I’ll figure out who I can invite to come work in the garden for a share of the crops. My wife and I tend not to use all the tomatoes and other veggies anyhow.

I like your idea and intend to act on it. Thanks.

    3. Wow! Thanks for the post! I’m thrilled. You guys do such wonderful work!

Please do visit! I am happy to help folks get going!
