There has been an amazing rescue effort happening in the Midwest to save animals that were effected by the flooding. While many animals (thousands) died because of the flooding, there have been many groups helping to save what animals were stranded and sick. The rescue included companion animals, wildlife and farm animals.

One specific rescue team – Operation “Big Ditch Pig Rescue” was in Oakville, Iowa and was made up of – Farm Sanctuary, International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), American Humane Association (AHA) and Animal Rescue League of Boston. Their hard work paid off, they were able to help over 60 animals. Many of these animals were pregnant and doomed to a life in a factory farm, and are now on their way to live at the Farm Sanctuary- what a wonderful ending to this tragic story.
