Today’s Tip: Don’t run on empty! People who skip breakfast don’t save calories – they feel sluggish and can actually end up gaining weight. A breakfast with good carbs and some protein can delay symptoms of hunger for hours. Try oatmeal with nuts and fruit.

A friend of mine taught me this great way to prepare oatmeal for breakfast- the night before! It depends on how many people you are feeding in the morning, but if it’s just me, I take 1/3 cup of organic oats (not quick oats- just regular ones) and add 3 times as much water. Yes, 3 times- so in this case, 1 cup of water. I add in dried fruit, nuts, and a little cinnamon or vanilla. Bring your oatmeal concoction to a boil, turn it off, put the lid on the pot and go to bed!

In the morning I heat it up quickly and add milk (I like Eden Rice/Soy Milk) and it’s the best oatmeal I’ve ever had. Each oat flake is plump and so are the raisins (or whatever dried fruit you have used!). It’s quick and filling and a great way to start your day.
