  • Protect “rBGH-Free” Labels

Food & Water Watch, our sister organization, is heading up a campaign to let Governor Rendell of Pennsylvania know that consumers want artificial growth hormone free information on their dairy products! And it’s not just consumers, most dairies want to have this information available too.

If you don’t know much about artificial growth hormone (a useful tool for factory farms- manufactured by Monsanto) please read this fact sheet from Food & Water Watch. The thing that baffles me is that the European Union, as well as Japan, Canada, and Australia have all banned the use of rBGH- and the US is almost encouraging its use! The US is not only allowing rBGH to be used, but then prohibiting consumers from making choices about whether or not we want to ingest it. It’s down right embarrassing!

Here’s a little blurb from Food & Water Watch: “This isn’t just a Pennsylvania issue. This ban applies to all dairy products sold in the state, so it affects dairies all over the country. Moreover, if this labeling ban goes into effect, it could be the first domino to fall, setting off a chain reaction in other states. Ohio and New Jersey are already proposing similar rules that would make it illegal for dairies to label their milk as rBGH free. We have to stop this in Pennsylvania before it’s too late.”

Please take the time to right in or call Governor Rendell!
