The Health Chic Visits NYC

I have been talking back and forth with Wendimere Reilly for a few months now… before our road trip. She had originally contacted me to get a copy of the Meatrix DVD to use in her classes with kids. Her website sounded interesting, The Health Chic, but what really caught my attention was that she was touring the country (like we did!) sharing information about health and hearing stories from others- in an Airstream Trailer!

Wendimere not only promotes healthy living while traveling around the country, but when she isn’t traveling, she has the beautiful Health Chic House in Florida. From Wendimere’s website, “This 1913 Florida Cracker style house is home to a retail store, educational studio, Friendship porch & garden and It’s Open! Our goal is to showcase local, organic and sustainable living options. With the help of Eco Designer and Artist, Jeff Barrett and lots of love and community support we hope to bring Eco Attitude to the South.” How exciting!

But wait, there is more! She also wrote a book (and is already working on the updated version) called, “The Health Chic Guide: Hip, Fun & Delicious Living.” In this book she gives practical ideas for living a healthy lifestyle. I just started reading it, so check back to our website for a review soon.

Wendimere was in NYC this weekend and we hooked up for lunch at Souen, my favorite Macrobiotic restaurant. She has an amazing story, not coming from a health related background, but coming from an unhealthy lifestyle. It was her unhealthy, stressful lifestyle that made her take notice and turn her life around. Now she is passionate about sharing health with others. She even shared the Meatrix with her students (a group of kids she works with- yet another wonderful Health Chic program- The Health Chic Kids Project) as a way to get them talking about health issues involved with meat. She is just finishing up a project with these kids where they are creating 30 second TV commercials about health issues- I want to be in that class!

The reason Wendimere was in NYC this weekend was to find out more about Kosher foods- I can’t wait for her next book to see what her angle is on Kosher. I’m also looking forward to a moment to sit down and read her current book- I have a feeling that Wendimere won’t be sitting down anytime soon, she is a busy woman with a mission to share health with the world!
