Eat Well Guide hits the road!!
June 14th, 2006 No Comments
The first official Eat Well Guide road trip is now officially underway! As the road trip season approached, we considered the types of food normally available to road trippers, and thought – there must be a better way! There’s not only a huge variety of farms, stores and restaurants out there for sustainable food lovers, but bed and breakfasts and farm stays as well. It soon became clear what had to be done – a trip to Tennessee! Okay, so Bonnaroo had a little something to do with that decision….
We were invited back to Bonnaroo again this year to present factory farm/sustainable farm issues to a crowd of some 20,000 concert-goers that gathers in Manchester, Tennessee each year to hear great bands and have a one-of-a-kind summer festival experience.
On our way down from NY to TN, we tried to squeeze as many sustainable stops into our schedule as possible, making 7 Eat Well Guide stops from D.C. to Asheville, North Carolina in three days. The food has been delicious; the chefs and farmers truly inspiring. From college kids to DC professionals changing course for the country to those who’ve had farming in their blood for generations, the spectrum of people choosing to make a living sustainably in just this short trip has been remarkable.
In the postings to come, we hope to share some of the stories we heard, the sights we’ve seen and while we can’t share the food, we can give you some great tips about where to stop on your next trip to the southeast for the best sustainable food around. Oh, and we should have plenty to share about Bonnaroo as well….
